The story behind cje

Catherine's inspiration for her designs are rooted in the beautiful places she has seen and experienced. Born in Singapore (of Scottish parents), Catherine grew up yoyoing from the UK to exotic postings including India, Saudi Arabia, Japan and Turkey. Her family immersed themselves in each country and culture they lived in – houseboats in Kathmandu, coastal Africa by sea, tiger-trekking on Indian elephants, exploring the shopping districts of Tokyo, drives from Ankara to the Turkish coast – all leaving indelible imagery and memories. Catherine's Grandfather panned for Gold and Gemstones in Scotland (as well as enjoying lapidary and jewellery making) taking her as a child on a tour of the Highlands to find gold and garnets. Her Mother traded as an Antique dealer restoring antique lace, ceramics and jewellery.

Prior to creating her own label, Catherine worked for over 25 years in the Fashion jewellery industry. Her career began in Paris, supplying her designs to Parisian boutiques and assisting renowned costume-jewellery specialists Eric et Lydie.

Upon returning to London, she worked for leading costume-jewellery brand Erickson Beamon for several years, in design and production, including the accessories for Agent Provocateur. She then gained valuable experience designing jewellery for a supplier to high street retailers including Accessorize, Top Shop, River Island and Oasis. She also created her own bespoke commissions which sold through many renowned and prestigious retailers both domestically and internationally, including Liberty, Selfridges, Whistles, Graham and Green and Urban Outfitters.

More recently, she worked with English National Opera on a bespoke commission used in the marketing campaign photo-shoot for their production of Carmen. She was also commissioned by the London Coliseum to create a jewellery collection for On Your Feet! (the best-selling story of Gloria and Emilio Estefan) in addition to bespoke pieces to celebrate The Mask of Orpheus and English National Ballet's 70th Gala.
